Biggest Loser & More to Love

Posted by: Rochelle In: Life

I was drawn to the Biggest Loser last night while flipping to watch Luke propose to Tali.  What a night!

Both Malissa and Tali are beautiful and it was refreshing to see healthy, vibrant, curvy, feminine women.

Switch back to Biggest Loser – the heaviest female they have ever had on the show @ 476 lbs.  (I remember standing in line here in NYC for the trainer audition.  I was hoping for the “comapssionate trainer” role.:))I was horrified with the language from Bob and Jillian.  While I know both of them must care deeply for the participants, I am shocked at what feels abusive as the f-bombs are dropped a zillion times.  Is THIS what people need to get serious about their health?!?  Maybe so for some…

When I first entered this work back in 1995, the message at the time was you can be “fit and fat.”  With the high levels of diabetes and challenged mobility with age, where are we at now?

I still deeply believe we need to “heal” not “combat” obesity.  I still believe there are not enough size sensitive programs and health professionals to serve the plus population.  But I have also come to believe, amidst the health care reform debate, that we each must individually take charge of our own health.  This applies to ALL sizes.

Your health is your greatest asset.  Your life is truly precious.
