There was a great deal of outdoor activity for me last week which is always a healing contrast to my urban life.  My Yorkie, Champagne, turned 17 and to celebrate, we went rowing in Central Park.  The weather was beautiful and as I rowed the boat I kept linking the activity to exercises I do with my clients (lat rows, resistance bands for rowing exercises, abdominal strength and breathwork). Yes, it was a perfect match!  At 17, Champagne is a bit challenged with balance so patience and compassion are at the forefront of her movement program.  We had a terrifc day!

Rochelle and Champagne

I visited my grandmother in Maine over the Columbus weekend.  At 90, she still teaches movement to the women in her assisted living home – all 6 of them (Bertha will be 102 in December)!  We took a drive on the beautiful fall Sunday and stopped at the beach so I could collect some rocks and shells for my trip to Michigan next week.  Balance was also at the top of our priorities, but with a strong background in dance, her body moved gracefully through space.  The smell of the salt air, the breeze on my face, the cry of the seagulls and the beauty around us made for a complete afternoon.

Rochelle and Gram

I feel blessed to be able to sit in the peaceful moments these days.  Soaking in the quality time with Champagne and Gram (as well as my parents) fulfilled me in  a deep and nurturing way.

May you find and appreciate those people (and pets) in your life that nourish and fulfill you.

Have a great week!
