The Upper Peninsula or “U.P.” as the local women call it. The most northern tip of Michigan that juts out into beautriful Lake Superior. No cell phone service on my Verizon wireless and a log cabin with a closet of firewood for my fireplace. Truly one of the most magnificent places I have seen in my travels.
“A Change Will Do You Good!” was the theme for this year’s women’s health conference put on for the 10th year by Keweenaw Memorial Hospital. With nearly 100 women in attendance, the conference was full of information and issues directly related to women’s health.
Adn what did I learn? Women are truly amazing. Although our lifestyles – urban to “way out in the woods” were quite different, there is still such a deep thread of commonality when it comes to life, love, community and health. We all have a deep sense of giving and nurturing – now to offer it a little more fully to ourselves first in order to be strong for others. Next is our sense of intuition that sometimes gets knocked over in the stress and chaos of daily life. Lastly is our desire to learn as much as possible about our changing bodies – from age 25 to 82 and beyond. Fascinating how the age range was wonderfully blurred in this powerful group of women.
Thank you Cooper Harbor – for your strength, hospitality, wisdom and care. The heart that binds us all is full of life and love.
Amen Rochelle! My mother and I had such a wonderful time at conference, and I especially enjoyed getting to know you. My outlook has changed since meeting you, I didn’t even silently curse the skinny-minnies at the gym yesterday :) My body may be different, but it’s beautiful all the same. I’ve been working on the things you asked me to look into, and I can’t wait to chat with you about it.
By the way…my rock goes everywhere with me, safely tucked in my left pocket :)
Thanks so much!
