The new 5-week Yoga Plus series began last night. It was my first time back teaching in over 2 weeks. The energy was so beautiful and healing. To create a safe space for women to move physically and feel secure emotionally has always been a cornerstone of my work. The focus and ability for each woman to stay present during the class was exceptional. My heart was full.
What continues to amaze me are the wonderful health updates I hear from the clients. I have always believed women should move one hour per week in an organized activity in order to achieve health benefits. There are women in yoga class once a week for less than a year that are enjoying a decrease in medication, a decrease in blood pressure and an increase in other types of activity that have been lost or abandoned over the years.* What a joy!
Movement is not an all or nothing event. The benefits are nearly instantaneous. And the increase in one’s quality of life can be felt in a remarkably short amount of time. It takes listening to your body and trusting your ability to chart a new course far more profound than anything you have done in the past.
*Special “shout out” to Chavone for joining the Road Runner’s Club, Tammy for riding her new bike all around Manhattan and Sharon for getting back to ballet class! Yeah!
