Yep, it’s Thursday, and what a week it’s been.

On Monday, I returned to full movement. And yes – I wept the first time I reached down to my toes and let my head relax. There was a release of my shoulder and neck muscles, and I felt the space open between my vertebra. I remembered, again, the joy of movement.

On Tuesday, I felt like I had my groove back – though still slightly cautious. It reminded me how little it actually takes to help the body flow again with slow, gentle and loving stretches.

And then Wednesday. It was eerily quiet on 3rd Ave at 35th Street. When I don’t hear the traffic, I pause, knowing in my bones something just isn’t quite right. I could hear the rumble of motorcycles in the distance. I went outside and saw the police had closed off 3rd at 34th Street. I took a few pictures and put my phone away – realizing why this was all happening..

I had the privilege of standing there, tears streaming down my face, while Officer Mora’s hearse passed. Officers Rivera and Mora were gunned down responding to a domestic violence call here in NYC. Although the traffic was stopped for about 30 minutes, there wasn’t peep in the “3rd Avenue parking lot.” A reverent silence.

In his death, Officer Mora gave the ultimate gift of life to five others by donating his organs. He lives on and will never be forgotten.

Are you an organ donor? Can you imagine the impact of saving another life?It doesn’t matter your age or ethnicity. And you can be very specific about what you want to donate. (The most need in this country seems to be for heart, liver and kidneys.)  For New York State, you can sign up for organ donation through the DMV, voter registration or the NY State of Health Marketplace.  For other states, be sure to check your DMV, voter registration info or speak with your doctor.

I am grateful to serve you all as I know there are women I work with that are organ donor recipients. We also have a member of the NYPD among us and I am grateful for her service to this city each and every day.

Much love to you all this evening. We may have our challenges, but this past week, NYC has come together in a way that is palpable. And we also feel the love from the nation for these fallen police officers.

I encourage you to review your organ donation or sign-up. You could truly save a life.

With gratitude…
