We had so much fun this weekend attending my nephew’s basketball game. Yep – that’s him – blue #2! As I watched the team working together on the court, it struck me – again – how important it is to have a strong network of family (or your chosen family) and friends who “have your back.” I’m talking in a real, strong, authentic, powerful way. You don’t need an army, but a couple of solid relationships can provide comfort and support at times when you need it most.

During these long COVID months, there have been times when you’ve been isolated for days, weeks, even months. So much so even, that returning to socializing with large groups may seem daunting or overwhelming. Maybe that’s just me. :)

As humans, social interaction is essential to every aspect of our health. Research shows that having a strong network of support or strong community bonds, fosters both emotional and physical health and is an important component of adult life.

Take stock of your close circle. Share with one another your thoughts about life, joys, medical challenges, hopes, what to do in an emergency, and dreams. Be clear about what support looks and feels like for you. The trust is palpable.

We are human beings, interconnected with one another. As much as I respect independence, we ultimately rely on one another in this life journey.

Knowing someone has your back is an amazing feeling. Giving that kind of support to another human being is absolutely priceless.

Let’s stretch a bit more as we continue to walk out of this pandemic, and know deep in your heart, someone has your back!

With gratitude for always having my back!
