This is one of my all time favorite yoga chants and it feels more powerful than ever.
The Sanscrit translation:
“May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute to that happiness and freedom for all.
Are you able to contribute to the happiness? And what exactly does that mean?
Here are a few suggestions to reflect on:
1 – Speak kindly to yourself. Imagine each word within your own self could be a ripple effect into the universe. The internal conversation can be deafening. Make peace. Or at the very least, soften your internal tone and dialogue for a sense of peace.
2 – Take the time to truly “see” people. We are all human beings sharing the earth. Acknowledge the teller at the bank, the cashier at the store, your neighbor, even friends and family members. Slow down long enough to make a human connection.
3 – Live with grace. No one is perfect. You are meant to live this human experience on earth engaged in challenges, joys, relationships, emotions and an opportunity to grow in self-expression. Be kind. We are all trying our best. :)
This chant is often sung in yoga classes, but I find playing it during the day can ease my breath and settle me back into myself again. The message humbles me and Deval Primal sings the Loka Samasta chant beautifully. You can listen to her here.
Today, and in the days to come, may the thoughts, words and actions of your own life contribute to the happiness and freedom for all.
