Moving along. What I learned (or was reminded of) while waiting in line at the Biggest Loser Audition for Trainers…
4 – Stop Smoking! I hope for many of you this is an easy one to check off. But if you are still smoking, keep reading. When you smoke it is sometimes very difficult to taste your food – the senses become dull. Overeating or improper eating is a given. Also, your ability to increase your oxygen intake through increased activity is diminished because of the smoke damage to the lungs. While you may be concerned about gaining weight if you stop smoking, the benefits far outweigh the risks in the long run. Begin a movement program before you even quit smoking so there is not such a shock on your system.
5 – The RIGHT Support From Family and Friends. Many people were in the line with spouses, friends, trainers, etc. Most seemed to be connected to the right support. You don’t need someone who is going to nag you constantly. You need someone who will respect your needs and be honest with you. You must first be honest with yourself and very clear about the type of support you need. Sometimes it’s just someone to meet at class or walk with you. Keep it real.
6 – Sleep. Many standing in the line had not slept much – including myself who had slept only 4 hours so I could be up on time to get in the line! Missing sleep consistently is incredibly detrimental to one’s weight management program. The muscles of the body need rest in order to physically move the next day. The brain needs to rest in order to think properly and make empowering decisions for your life. The internal organs need to rest in order to function at optimal performance – liver, stomach, kidneys, adrenal glands – just to name a few. Create a bedtime ritual if you have trouble sleeping like hot tea and a good book or whatever else is warm, fuzzy and cozy for you. :)
