I just read this interesting article at NYTimes.com on size discrimination.  I’ve been in this field for nearly 15 years, and while this is not new information, I am always happy to see it brought to the forefront.

The key reason I initially got involved in the size acceptance community was because of  the discrimination within the fitness industry.  I don’t believe anyone should be discriminated against because of their size when it comes to leading an active lifestyle.  Here is my comment:

As a fitness trainer for plus-size women for the past 15 years, I will stand by any woman who leads an active lifestyle and displays healthful – or improvement in – numbers (BP, HDL, A1C, etc).  I have always measured success in terms of length of time in an active lifestyle, range of motion, increase in mobility, decrease in medications and quality of life issues.

Many Americans do not reach the the recommended 30 minutes of movement a day – no matter what their size!  Let’s stop judging and get moving to the very best of each individual’s ability – no judgments!

Wishing you all a day filled with the joy of movement!
