Master of Movement: Marianne Stephan

Today's featured Master of Movement is Marianne Stephan, who began with me in my pilates classes in 2008. Marianne was hesitant to start a movement program, and today she herself works in a gym and has developed a passionate love of movement. She likes boxing, kettlebells, TRX, and high aerobic ativities such as "burpees" which she describes in our interview.

Thank you. That is what I would like to say to everyone in my community. Really, thank you for all you have done. Because of YOU, I'm headed to Washington DC to discuss weight discrimination. Today I am meeting with a committee of health professionals to discuss weight stigma, messaging, programming and strategy as it relates to the White House's Let's Move! campaign and worksite wellness programs.

November 2013 Newsletter

There is a time for stillness, for quiet and meditation, a time to take a seat and go inward. There is also a time to act, to speak and be heard-- a time to stand and outwardly defend beliefs. Those who subscribe to my blog or follow me on Facebook may know about my stand on The Biggest Loser. This television show is a disgrace to the fitness industry and I have zero tolerance for the trainer to client abuse deemed appropriate by this program.

The Vision Has Never Changed

I love teaching plus size women how to lead an active lifestyle by finding the JOY in movement. This is in full alignment with the HAES (R) principle  of 'promoting individually appropriate, enjoyable, life-enhancing physical activity, rather than exercise that is focused on a goal of weight loss.'  This is my passion, my life's work, and the work I [...]

Tell Michelle Obama NOT to appear on The Biggest Loser!

My name is Rochelle Rice, The Plus Size Movement Expert, and I do NOT want first lady Michelle Obama to appear on The Biggest Loser. Since 1995, I have been working passionately with the plus population. I believe all people have the right to a movement program that works FOR the larger body-- not against it. The abuse that The Biggest Loser trainers lay on contestants is unacceptable. I felt the show was so over the top that in 2009 I auditioned for the show hoping to be cast as the compassionate trainer.

[PDF]   I recommend that you print a copy to keep by your bed. At the end [...]

September 2013 Newsletter

Vacations are lovely. Off-time is imperative. But whether I am resting OR working, I try to place myself in an environment supportive of peace and restoration. I am blessed with an office staff that agrees to begin our work day with 5 minutes of personal quiet. What a difference this makes in how we work, speak and deliver!
